1. What are Fibrinolytic Units?
Fibrinolytic unit is a unit of measure that demonstrates the activity of how well an enzyme or enzyme blend breaks down fibrinogen / fibrin. The formation of fibrinogen is associated with the inflammatory process. Fibrinolytic unit is the preferred measurement for identifying potency when looking for enzymes to support the proper mediation of inflammation.

2. What does the term proteolytic mean when describing enzymes?
Individual enzymes are very specific in their function. Proteolytic is an adverb that describes the action of the enzyme. ‘Proteo-' refers to protein and ‘-lytic' refers to the breaking down into smaller components. Therefore, proteolytic enzymes are enzymes that specifically break down protein and peptides into smaller components.

3. How is the blend of enzymes in the Anti-Inflammatory Formula different than the blend of enzymes in the Enzyme & Probiotic Formula?
The Anti-Inflammatory Formula's blend of enzymes is a concentrated blend of proteolytic enzymes with a high fibrinolytic activity. This formula is taken between meals for immediate absorption.

The Enzyme & Probiotic Formula's blend of enzymes is a diverse blend of enzymes that contain some proteolytic enzymes and additional enzymes to digest fats, carbohydrates, and plant fiber - a combination of components found in meals. This formula is taken with meals.

4. Most Anti-Inflammatory products recommend you do not use them 24 hrs prior to a sporting event. Some reasons are as follows: Not wanting an athlete to mask pain, as pain is a sign of a problem. Some anti-Inflammatory products are also known to thin your blood. So I was wondering with this product are there similar concerns.
First, Windhawk Balanced Naturals Anti-Inflammatory Formula should not be used in conjunction with an anti-coagulant unless it is recommended by your physician. This would include aspirin. These medications thin the blood and also have an effect on the function of platelets.

The Anti-Inflammatory Formula can be taken before, during, and after an athletic event.

Many anti-inflammatory products on the market have ingredients that only target reducing inflammation. They block additional pathways that support healing so the end result is reduced inflammation and prolonged healing times. In these cases, these anti-inflammatory products can potentially mask that tissues are still damaged.

On the other hand, enzymes (as found in Windhawk's Anti-inflammatory Formula) SUPPORT the body's regulatory pathways. They do not induce a reaction. Instead, they support the body's natural healing process that would occur naturally if the body was not already stressed (either chemically or physically). They thin the blood in a different manner; by cleansing it to improve cardiovascular function. They do not have an effect on the function of the platelets. While it supports the regulation of the inflammatory pathways, enzymes also promote healing (rather than prolonging it). Recover times will be faster.

With the Anti-Inflammatory Formula, athletes during training will take 2 capsule 2 times a day to reduce inflammation and promote healing. Then, they have taken one capsule just prior to an event. Others have opened up a capsule to add it to their water during a long event. Immediately after the event, they have taken 2 capsules 4 times a day for a couple of days. There is not a need to take more than 8 a day unless recommended by your physician.

5. What makes plant based enzyme supplements better than pancreatic enzyme supplements?
There are a variety of pH levels that are found throughout the stomach and intestines for proper digestion. Researchers have concluded that plant based enzymes are more stable, effective and function within a broad pH range as compared to enzymes extracted from animals.

The Anti-Inflammatory Formula does not contain digestive enzymes extracted from the pancreas of pigs, cows, or sheep. This feature makes this product suitable for vegetarians and those who want to reduce the amount of animal products within their diet.

6. Why does the Anti-inflammatory Formula contain Nattokinase, an enzyme derived from soybean?
Nattokinase is derived from natto, a fermented soybean. This enzyme was included in this formula for its potent fibrinolytic activity. Windhawk has sourced this enzyme derived from natto that has not been genetically modified.

Windhawk is careful to exclude genetically modified and / or unfermented soy products from its product line.

7. What is the difference between vitamin C derived from foods versus vitamin C that is sold as ascorbic acid?
Vitamin C derived from whole foods is a vitamin C complex that is made up of several components that include ascorbic acid, rutin, J factor, K factor, and bioflavonoid. As a complex, your body is able to absorb and utilize the nutrients, just as Nature intended.

Vitamin C that is labeled as ascorbic acid is an ingredient that is man-made. It does not have the same function and benefits as a true whole food vitamin C complex. In fact, you cannot cure a vitamin C deficiency by supplementing with synthetic ascorbic acid.

Windhawk's Anti-Inflammatory Formula provides vitamin C complexes in a whole food form. 150 mg of Camu Camu berry powder is included in each serving to provide 30 mg of vitamin C complexes. The remaining 120 mg of Camu Camu berry powder provides other supporting nutrients for improved absorption.
